__How it All Started…

First, I am Bertille, founder, a blessed and busy mum of four lovely kids behind hellolittlelingos.com. I’m all about keeping things simple, adding a splash of creativity, and having fun with languages. While French is our mother tongue, our experiences studying in Germany made us understand how challenging it can be to learn a new language as an adult. That’s why it was important for us to raise our kids multilingually and to pass on this linguistic heritage as a precious gift that could open doors to the world. I enjoy hearing stories about bilingual or multilingual families and reading children’s books from around the world. When I’m not in the kitchen or at my desk, you can find me reading my Bible or taking a walk to enjoy nature.

Our multilingual journey began in 2019 when we moved from Germany to India. After settling in, our children started school with zero knowledge of English. Despite our French and German backgrounds, our kids quickly adopted English as their primary language within just seven months. Concerned about this imbalance, I began actively searching for suitable multilingual educational resources to support their language development. Libraries offered limited options. I borrowed books from other mothers, ordered workbooks from Germany, and had them brought back whenever someone traveled to India. I spent countless hours online looking for ideas and printable activity sheets to share with my kids. Managing this across different ages was time-consuming. To encourage language interaction, I organized playdates with other parents and also enrolled them in a German online class. My growing interest in multilingualism led me to develop fun, creative, and engaging activities for my children. This experience inspired me to create this website to share with other parents who aim to support their children’s language learning. Of course, we are still on our adventure because mastering a language is neither a race nor a sprint. It’s a journey you explore at your own pace. However, it’s so rewarding to see our kids confidently switching between three languages, French, English, and German.

You might wonder why I chose to build this site in English. It’s been a personal challenge and a way to prove that anyone can achieve great things with a little determination. Rest assured, I strive to provide high-quality products that are carefully reviewed for accuracy.

Simplicity is essential for building strong language foundations, especially for multilingual Kids.

I think languages are precious gifts that should be passed down through generations. It’s up to us, as parents, to nurture and share these gifts with our children, no matter where we are or what language we speak.

Moreover, research shows that exposing children to multiple languages at a young age can significantly boost their cognitive development. Very Young children, from birth to about 3 years old, are really good at learning a new language because their brains are super flexible at that time. So, the earlier, the better.
